Over 75% Rwandans spend less than 730 Francs per day – UN

Kigali: From an estimated 10million Rwandans, some 77 percent are estimated to be living on less than $1.25 a day (Approx. 730 Francs), according to the latest UN Human Development 2010. The report released Thursday also paints a grip picture on levels of poverty in Rwanda – with 81 percent of Rwandans facing more other troubles not related to income.

The report says this large percentage of Rwandans is faced with “multidimensional poverty” because they are affected by "widespread deprivations".

This state of affairs means that the lives of Rwandans living in poverty are affected by more than just their income – whereby they do not have access to many other things that support survival, according to the report.
